1. Tumblr photolog with Flickr

Inspired by Jon Garcia, I present you with the Flickr-to-Tumblr Yahoo pipe that will automatically post all your new Flickr photos on Tumblr like a magical helpful creature that it is. To set it all up:

    1. Clone the pipe; I think you need a Yahoo account for this
    2. Go into Edit Source, and change the URL of the Feed module to your own flickr RSS feed URL. Your feed URL should be at the bottom of your flickr photostream page (look for the orange RSS icon)
    3. Save the pipe, and copy the URL which the Get as RSS button on the pipe page links to. That’s your new pipe’s RSS feed link.
    4. Add that feed link under the Tumblr feeds page. Make sure to choose Photos instead of Links from the 2nd dropdown list.

From now on, all the new photos you post on Flickr will show up on your Tumblr blog as a large picture and its title, with a link to its photo page. Magic!

Note: Tumblr updates itself from your feeds once an hour, so leave it be and get a coffee and a muffin.

UPDATE: from working with this thing for a week or two now and after contacting the support, it seems like Tumblr’s feed importing is both quite slow and inconsistent at times: feed items might take longer than usual to import, or don’t import at all for no clear reason. Hence  it’s probably easier and faster if you just use the Tumblr bookmarklet — when calling it up from a Flickr photo page, it’s smart enough to recognize it’s looking at a photo, and create a new Photo tumblr post with a large version of the picture embedded as well as a link to the flickr photo page.
